The return of the ‘Time Flies’ event is a nod to the early history of Coastal Jazz. Co-founder and founding artistic director, Ken Pickering created the series in 1988 and began co-curating with bassist Torsten Müller in 2001 as a “summit meeting” exploring improvisational practices. It was known for featuring local and international improvising musicians in an intimate setting, playing in unexpected match-ups and combinations.

Yellow Fire erupted from the underground as a radical space for Asian rappers in Vancouver to claim the mic and rewrite the rules. Guided by Scope, a Chinese Canadian rapper, producer, and shape-shifting artist, the crew transcends language and geography, crashing hip-hop into the ancient, the futuristic, and the undefinable. Through electrifying performances, community-driven projects, and fearless experimentation, they blaze a path for Asian diasporic voices that have long been overlooked.

Dancing as Remembering is a multidisciplinary workshop guided by interdisciplinary artist Sarah Wong exploring the body’s relationship to memory. In the first half, we will dance in the park, connecting to each other and the land through guided improvisation tasks. In the second half, we will craft postcards, recording our movement experiences through embodied writing and visual art exercises.

There will be three showings at 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm.

The concert will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 30-minute intermission during which tea and cookies will be available.

Free, public, monthly community event open to improvising musicians of all genres and experience levels to play collaboratively.

We will meet outside at the "Friendship" sculpture by Charles Hilton at the entrance of the Devon Tower (400 3 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2P 4H2). This walk traverses through different indoor sections of the +15 skywalk network, outdoors through Stephen Avenue (8 Ave SW), and finishes the walk at Arts Commons.
